- El Modena Choir
These are the portraits of The El Modena Choir! I used Butterfly Lighting and a little bit of Split lighting as well for these portraits. The lighting was placed on my right side facing the person, which was helpful for taking photos using the Short Lighting method too. These are some of my favorite photos that I took!
- Christmas Vacation 2022!!!
On December 16, I and my sisters volunteered to help at my church with a posada for Jesus's Birthday. I was in charge for passing out some flyers to the guests so that they would sing along to the prayer. After we watched a short story about Jesus birthday, me and a group of helpers set up a place so that the little kids could hit piñatas. I was in charge of the kids from the ages of 6-10, I thought it was going to be easy but they got a little out of control. Overall this has got to be one of the most greatest days of my life. During Winter break I was able to make many memories with my little sister, we watched Barney and even The Magic School Bus. We would also dance most of the day and do karaoke parties in the kitchen, and get into little fights (I'm teaching her how to be a professional boxer). She's like my little twin, many even think that she looks like me, but I just say that because we both like to sing, dance, cook, and do many puzzles of course. I taught her how to take photos and she's always asking me to use my phone so that she can take a photo of something she likes. This photo is taken by her, she enjoys taking selfies and I enjoy being in them with her. This year for winter break I decided to stay home and enjoy my free time doing things that I like. I baked a cake for my sister's birthday on January 3. It was my first time making a cake out of four layers, and I'm happy it turned out nice, it was really yummy too! I used vanilla and chocolate layers, with an Oreo frosting that I made. I frosted the cake white on the outside and added some Oreo cookie crumbs on the side of the cake and added four more Oreos on top with frosting for a better look. On January 7 a few days before we went back to school, my parents decided to plan a huge birthday party for my sister, after all she was turning 18. The planning was a little stressful for me and my mom but we managed to get everything under control. But one of my favorite parts of this party was that my mom decided to add a desert table with a whole lot of yummy treats like cupcakes (made by me), and some cake flan (made by my aunt), and of course a lot of Mexican candy like paleta payaso, and many more. Well that was how I spent my Christmas Vacation, it was a nice experience for me because I was able to just relax and enjoy some time with my family. - Marlene
- Thank You Mr. Haug
Thank you Mr. Haug for being my English Teacher for my 9th and 10th-grade years. I really enjoyed being in your class and making new friends there, like Aaliyah and Milagros. I loved everything about your class, the writing, the reading, and especially meeting amazing teachers like you and Mrs. Foster. Thank you for all the memories, for opening my mind to the world of writing, and for showing me your favorite songs from Queen, and yes I'm still trying to keep myself alive. Everything about your class was just special if not important to me, being there and bonding with friends was fun because you made class fun, and interesting in many ways by showing us episodes from The Twilight Zone and comparing them with everyday life problems like forgiving people and forgetting what they had done to us or others. One of my favorite things about your class was doing GCQs (google classroom questions), there were many good questions that you would always ask us like "What is love?", and I really enjoyed just sitting in class on my computer and pouring my heart out to your questions. I also enjoyed the times when you would tell us some of your favorite stories, like the time when your friend shook hands with Albert Einstein and you shook his when you found out that Albert Einstein had shaken his hand. There were so many great things that happened in your class that created so many great memories, and I thank you for that. But I would also like to thank you for the DVD of Queen from their concert in Montreal in 1981, till this day it is something so special that I have. Now that the year is coming to an end, I would like to just show some of my favorite photos that I have taken. On the right is a photo that I took in October for The Fall Festival, I was using an ISO of 200, 100 shutter speed, and a 5.6 f-aperture. This was my favorite photo taken because it reminded me of Tinkerbell. On the left is a photo that I took on November 18 for an assignment on Forced Perspective. I used my teddy bear and placed her in a seating place near the new science building, I extended her hand out and made it look like she was holding onto my Friend Lesley. Thank you once again Mr. Haug for being such a great English Teacher, and for teaching us everything we needed to know, Thank you. - Marlene Larios
- Exploring Motion with Shutter Speeds
The setting on the camera which controls how motion is captured is shutter speed. The longest the Nikon D3300’s shutter stays open is 30 seconds. The shortest duration the Nikon D3300’s shutter stays open is 1400 a second. When we used a slow shutter speed, we had to use a tripod because no one can possibly hold a camera steady for that length of time without moving the camera. In the situation where we intentionally wanted to use a slow shutter speed, we had to use an ISO of 100 and the smallest aperture of f22 and even higher. This forced the camera to allow a shutter speed of at least 1 second. The longer shutter speed allowed us to convey GHOST images which was an interesting effect, especially when combined with a person who is standing very still in the picture. My favorite picture from that situation is on the right. Include the exposure information with the picture example ISO 100 f22 2 seconds. If we want to get in the picture as well, we can set the camera to a delay by using the timer. The movement of the camera isn’t always a bad thing like in the example of panning. In the picture where we photographed someone riding a bicycle to convey motion, we used a shutter speed of 1/4000th and an aperture of f/22 and the ISO was 200. My favorite picture from this assignment is shown on the left. On the other extreme end of the shortest duration that the camera shutter stays open, we used 1/4000th high shutter speeds or fractions of a second. In the water balloon bursting picture, we used ISO 400 aperture of F 5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/4000. To capture splashing water, we also used high shutter speeds. Here are my favorite pictures of high shutter speeds.
- Fall Festival 2022 at the Nature Center
What is the Fall Festival? The fall festival is a fun event where Band, Orchestra, Choir, Ceramics, and many more classes get to show off their art, whether it's music or a lovely plant, everyone gets the chance to show off what they have been learning this Fall. The Fall Festival is always held at the nature center. The nature center is located at the back of the the village, where many great performances are made. On the entrance, many Ofrendas (on the right) were placed on a table for many to see, they were all beautiful and I thought it was something nice that the students of El Modena High School made. At the nature center, there were many things that I enjoyed. I really enjoyed the short play about Twilight, (on the left) I liked how she was deeply in love with finding a real live version of Jacob and Edward, If I was her I'd be happy too. The fun part about this play was that "Edward" was acting as "Jacob" and Jacob as Edward, which made things even interesting. I also loved when Choir performed, my friend Aaliyah was up they're singing (on the right), so I made sure to take a photo or two of her. Choir is a class I would recommend to take, I took this elective back in my 8th grade year and i really enjoyed it. Here are some of the Artwork that I really liked. (on the left) These masks show their own emotion, whether they're sad or a happy each mask has a story to tell. These are my favorite photos I took from the nature center.
